Knit Kit Sale! Get ready for the holidays! And a new Knit-a-long coming your way!

October 31, 2009 at 8:40 am (Events, Sales)

Oh those holiday’s are looming….even though our funky October may have you believing differently, those holidays really are right around the corner.  And so…we’ve made up a ton of kits that are perfect for gifts.  Hats, scarves, mittens, neckwarmers, socks….all things that you could get going and finished before the holidays are really here.

So get your list in your head (or on paper if you are one of those amazing organized ones) and come in to get those gifts started.  Next week, November 2nd to the 7th, all kits will be 15% off.  (If you are a club member, you get an additional 10% off on top of that!)

*******

Our new knit-a-long is also starting Thursday, November 5th.  We are all gong to be working on that fabulous mohair jacket that you may have seen Rochelle wearing the the store.  103009164021
It is a adaptation of the Lily Chin Convertible Jacket and patterns will be available in the store.  It’s so light, beautiful and super warm, and even better than that?  It’s reaaaally easy!  Great group knitting!

(Btw…we are stronly recommending mohair for this project as it isn’t an item meant to touch the skin, but if you have an allergy to mohair, we can help you find an alternative.)  As always, knit-a-longs are free, but we do require that you buy yarn for the project at Island Yarn.

From now until Black Friday, Island Yarn will be selling raffle tickets for a prize package worth approximately $500.  The winning package include:

*That luscious coat displayed in the store…you know…the one we’ve all been drooling over.  It’s made of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Flamme:  Fiber content 50% peruvian wool, 30% alpaca, 20% silk.

*A $50 gift card to Island Yarn compliments of Vicki.

* A sock sack stuffed with sock yarn and needles compliments of Vicki. This sack is a locally handmade item by Bettz designs.

*And a couple of cute little jewelry pieces.

Tickets sell at the store for:

$1.00 for one ticket

$5.00 for six tickets

$10.00 for 13 tickets

Cash only please.

All proceeds go to Kiva. “Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepenuers around the globe.” If you would like to learn more about Kiva, go to Kiva.org
Last summer we raised $300 for Kiva. Two of the recipients of the loans have paid back 100%, leaving that money to be loaned out to another deserving recipient. The Perlas Del Ande Group in Bolivia used the money to purchase clothing in bulk to resell. The Mujeres de fe group in the Dominican Republic, used the money for their various businesses, which included selling clothing and cosmetics and operating a motor taxi service. The third recipient, Dina Nyota Njema, in Tanzania, has repaid 70% of her loan and is using the money to purchase more inventory for her clothing sales.
As you can see, this is an excellent cause! And an excellent prize for the winner of the raffle! Don’t forget to tell your friends and family how much you would love to support this cause!
Now…let the drooling re-commence!
P.S. If you are one of the first 30 people to come into the store and mention “Tragical” to Vicki, I will buy you your first raffle ticket.

October Pattern, New knit-a-long, and so much news!

October 1, 2009 at 7:51 am (Events, New, Pattern of the Month)

093009161152

Available until October 31st as our pattern of the month…

Our new neckwamer pattern is just the pattern you want for total luxury and warmth!  This neckwarmer is made from Ellie’s Reclaimed Cashmere which is gorgeous and a complete joy to work with and wear.  We won’t talk about how difficult it is to get the neckwarmer off of a certain young model!  The pattern requires about 300 yards of Ellie’s Cashmere and just about 10-20 yards of a contrast color (of desired).  I used Feza Mesmerize and it’s deep colors really compliment many of the cashmere colors.

This pattern is free through the month of October with purchase of suggested yarn.

New Knit-a-Long Starts October 1st!

Our next knit-a-long will be starting on Thursday, October 1st.  We will be working on the February Lady Sweater.  Beautiful and fun…and best of all…knitted in one piece.  You can find the free pattern on Ravelry, just search for “February Lady Sweater”.  We are suggesting that you use Tosh Worsted for this project, but there are many other options, so come in and take a look!

As always, knit-a-longs are a completely free event, but please purchase yarn for knit-a-longs at Island Yarn.

New yarns arriving almost everyday for fall!

We’ve recently received some gorgeous boxes of yarns that you don’t want to miss!   We’ve got new sock yarn from Madelinetosh as well as her Pure Silk Lace (yum), and Tosh Worsted, new colors of Wisdom Poems, O-Wool in its beautiful dk weight, and lots of new recycled yarn…both ours and Ellie’s.  Square needles are back in (for the most part, but I’m always ordering more) and we are expecting a box of Boomerang this week.  So much fun stuff, so little time.

Please vote!

Many of you know our wonderful teacher Rochelle and as it would happen, her son Ethan has been nominated in the GQ “Better Man, Better World” search.  If you could go and vote for him, it would be great!  Here’s the link to vote for Ethan:
