April 4, 2011 at 10:05 am (Uncategorized)

If you don’t look out your window, you might believe me that it is spring! Which means….time for knit-a-longs! Our first knit-a-long will begin this Thursday, April 7th. We are going to be working on Noro Log Cabin Blankets. You can use any of these free patterns, and Kureyon, Silk Garden, or Taiyo! Many have already jumped on board with this one, so come in and check out the gorgeous squares being created!

As always, knit-alongs are free, but we do require that you buy yarn for the project at Island Yarn.

October 2, 2010 at 7:44 am (Uncategorized)

Ahhh…woke up to a lovely chill in the air. Hoping to see some gorgeous sweaters walking in today!

Just a reminder that our hours today will be 11 to 6.

TODAY ONLY – All Mirasol yarns will be 20% off!

And TODAY ONLY JUST FOR PASSPORT HOLDERS, our Club Membership will be available for $40 instead of its usual $45. You can see all the great details here. (Btw….you can combine these deals and end up getting nearly 30% off Mirasol when you join the club!)

And I wanted to remind everyone that Ellie will be in with her Reclaimed Cashmere and spinning wheel today from 12 to 3! Don’t miss her! She and her yarn are fantastic!

Annnnd….we have an added event that came together at the last moment! Our favorite handspinner, KnittinkbyAB will be in the store with her wheel spinning away. We have her luscious Faux Cashmere in stock right now, and the way it flies out, we will hopefully watching her spin more of it on Sunday. She’s also the dealer in the area for Spinolution Wheels, so if you have been wanting to see or try one (they are crazy awesome by the way!), Sunday, 12-4 would be the perfect time!

And all weekend long, we are having drawings for special prizes, so when you are getting your passport punched, don’t forget to get a ticket. I’ll be announcing 3 winners per day! Check back here tomorrow to see if you are a winner!

September Pattern of the Month!

September 1, 2010 at 8:05 am (Uncategorized)

Available until September 30th as our pattern of the month…

The sock parade continues with this super squishy sock!  This sock pattern was number six of the seven socks for my mom.  Featuring a super squishy seed stitch rib, the pattern is a great variation on boring old ribbed socks (which I love as well). Made with Classic Elite Alpaca Sox, the sock is sure to delight your toes!  This pattern is free through the month of September with the purchase of 1 hank of Classic Elite Alpaca Sox.

COMBO CLUB!

May 13, 2010 at 8:52 am (Uncategorized)

COMBO CLUB! (do you hear me yelling?) I’ve been making these luscious hanks of combo yarns and they seem to be quite a hit.  (Pictures will be up soon here and on etsy or come into the store and fondle!)  They make great, quick 1 skein scarves.  You will feel so productive, you won’t even know what to do!  Its a great project for beginners all the way to experienced knitters who need a little brainless, entertaining knitting.  Starting May 29th and for the following 4 months (mystery hanks will by in the store the last Saturday of the month)  you will receive an original combo hank.  That means, by the end of September, you could have FIVE  gorgeous scarves (or gifts already under your belt for the looming holidays)!  If you are local and will pick up your hanks at the store, the cost is $100 for the whole shebang.  If you want your hanks mailed, the cost is $115.  This means that COMBO CLUB! is open to the greater knitting community and if you know someone who is not local and may want to participate, spread the word.  These hanks could also be great gifts for knitters in and of themselves.  Stop by the store, call, or email (islandyarn AT gmail DOT com) to sign up!  If 20 people sign up, we’ll give away a free bonus hank to one lucky clubber at the end of September!

Deadline to sign-up is May 22nd.

We now interupt your regularly scheduled knit-a-long with another knit-a-long!

May 13, 2010 at 8:12 am (Uncategorized)

So, it took a PhD to tell me that I should have only posted two options for that summer sweater knit-a-long.  Genius, I know.  While I figure out what to do, or try to familiarize myself with 3 different patterns (or wait for a clear winner to emerge….hint…hint) we are going to do a little 3-week long knit-a-long to distract and amuse.  Starting May 13th and running thru the end of May, we are going to be working on Sunshine Bags on Thursday nights!

This is an adapted version of the Sunburst Sling Bags (tweaked to the hilt by someone who just can’t leave well enough alone).  I have the pattern available in the store.  It’s great fun….quick and gratifying.   These two appeared out of no where in about 4 days. You’ll need 1 (for the small) or 2 balls of Feza Alp Oriental.  It can be done with other bulky weight yarns, but please remember that we ask you to use yarn from Island Yarn for knit-a-longs.

April Pattern of the Month!

April 1, 2010 at 7:15 am (Uncategorized)

Available until April 30th as our pattern of the month…

The Boobamabob!  You can call it a Shawl Wrap with corded fringe, but its much more fun to call it the boobamabob.  The best part?  While you are busy trying to say boobamabob 10 times fast…you’ll be nearly done making it.  Its such a quick, gratifying knit!  And a perfect shawl to throw around you on these days when its warm just until the sun dips below the horizon.  I’ve put together kits for this one with yarn and patterns just to make the yarn combo process a little less confusing, but you can get the pattern for free with purchase of any appropriate yarn for the project.

This pattern is free through the month of April with purchase of boobamabob kit or alternate yarn for pattern.

January Pattern of the Month!

January 5, 2010 at 6:49 pm (Uncategorized)

Available until January 31st as our pattern of the month…

Reversible Brioche Hat!  Many of you have probably seen me wearing this hat around the store over the last month….I found it difficult to take it off once I had it on!  It’s super squishy and warm and very fun to make.  You’ll need just 2 balls of Ironstone Color Changes to make this great hat.

This pattern is free through the month of January with purchase of suggested yarn.

November Pattern of the Month!

November 9, 2009 at 9:28 am (Uncategorized)

110909080604Available until November 30th as our pattern of the month…

Love cables….love glittens!  And here they are together in our November pattern of the month.  If you aren’t familiar with glittens, the mitten top pops off so that you can have use of your fingers.  The Alpaca suggested for this pattern turns them into instant hand-heaters!  The pattern requires about just 1 skein of Cascade Pure Alpaca or Eco-Alpaca.

This pattern is free through the month of November with purchase of suggested yarn.
