November Pattern of the Month!
Available until November 30th as our pattern of the month…
Love cables….love glittens! And here they are together in our November pattern of the month. If you aren’t familiar with glittens, the mitten top pops off so that you can have use of your fingers. The Alpaca suggested for this pattern turns them into instant hand-heaters! The pattern requires about just 1 skein of Cascade Pure Alpaca or Eco-Alpaca.
This pattern is free through the month of November with purchase of suggested yarn.

You’ve
been waiting
for this
and you didn’t
even know it!

*And a couple of cute little jewelry pieces.
Tickets sell at the store for:
$1.00 for one ticket
$5.00 for six tickets
$10.00 for 13 tickets
Cash only please.
All proceeds go to Kiva. “Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepenuers around the globe.” If you would like to learn more about Kiva, go to Kiva.org
Last summer we raised $300 for Kiva. Two of the recipients of the loans have paid back 100%, leaving that money to be loaned out to another deserving recipient. The Perlas Del Ande Group in Bolivia used the money to purchase clothing in bulk to resell. The Mujeres de fe group in the Dominican Republic, used the money for their various businesses, which included selling clothing and cosmetics and operating a motor taxi service. The third recipient, Dina Nyota Njema, in Tanzania, has repaid 70% of her loan and is using the money to purchase more inventory for her clothing sales.
As you can see, this is an excellent cause! And an excellent prize for the winner of the raffle! Don’t forget to tell your friends and family how much you would love to support this cause!
Now…let the drooling re-commence!
P.S. If you are one of the first 30 people to come into the store and mention “Tragical” to Vicki, I will buy you your first raffle ticket.

September Pattern of the Month and News!
Available until September 30th as our pattern of the month…
This pattern is a great introduction to stranded knitting. You don’t need charts, but can practice holding two yarns at the same time, with breaks of plain striped knitting in between. The color changes keep you interested and the result is a lovely hat. This hat requires just one ball of both Wisdom Poems and JojoLand Baritone.
This pattern is free through the month of September with purchase of suggested yarn.
CHARITY HAT DRIVE UPDATE
Our Charity Hat Drive is moving right along! We have until September 11th to finish up a bunch more. Don’t forget, we’ll be having a special event on September 11th for turning in any last minute hats and giving out a few prizes (and eating some cookies of course).
SEPTEMBER KNIT-A-LONG

Charity Event Announcement
Hi Everyone!
September is Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society cites that, “every 4 minutes one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer”. Blood cancers originate in the bone marrow or lymphatic tissues. If you or someone you care about is experiencing symptoms such as persistent low grade fever, unexplained weight loss, tiredness, shortness of breath, or a loss of well-being, please see a healthcare provider soon. For more information visit http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/
The Island Yarn Shop is sponsoring a 6-week long session of hat making for patients who are in need (or want) of new head wear. From now until September 11, we are inviting all of you to join us. Knit or crochet as many hats as you can from now until then. Be sure to ask at the shop about a special discount on selected yarns you wish to purchase for this project. Don’t forget to ask for the free pattern too!
On September 11, bring in your hat(s), and stay for awhile. From 5-8 pm we will be finishing up any unfinished hats. There will be a prize for the person who turns in the most knitted or crocheted hats. There will also be a drawing for a door prize.
September 11 was chosen as the collection date because we would like to commemorate that day by performing a good deed. Check out our intention by visiting
The hats will be sent to the Hat Box Foundation,
http://www.hatboxfoundation.org/, an organization that distributes hats to patients.
I’m not much of a cheer leading type, but here’s my attempt:
